Mt view lodge is built on the historical soil of Wagon hill, overlooking the Burger Monument, Platrand memorials are located south of the town, this area saw action during the relief of Ladysmith .The Burgher Memorial on Wagon Hill was erected in honour of Boer forces killed during the siege and relief of Ladysmith. On Platrand this is a memorial to the imperial light horse, the Devonshire regiment, the earl of Ava and a number of others.A large number of the second Boer war battlefields around Ladysmith have been preserved as memorial sites .monuments and memorials to those who died during the battles have been erected at most of them.

| Possibly the most notable structure in Ladysmith is the Soofi mosque on the banks of the Klip river. The original mosque was built sometime between 1895 and 1910, but it was greatly extended in the 1960’s.Ladysmith lies near the South-Western border of the battlefields region at the foot hills of the Drakensburg .The town was founded in 1847 by Boer settlers, but two years later taken over by the British who later named it after the Spanish wife of the governor of the cape colony, Lady Juana Maria de los Dolores Smith. Ladysmith was fiercely fought over in the Anglo-Boer war .Only on February 28, 1900, The British under the command of general Sir Redvers Buller, managed to break through the Boer lines.
